The beginning and the 1980s

1979

FLY3 is born. Luciano Bilancioni, inspired by his passion for sailing, creates a water‑repellent, super‑washable yarn that is resistant to pilling. He calls on expert knitters and, by reinterpreting certain hand‑crafted techniques, creates a unique knitwear collection in a nautical style.

1981

The range expands. New waterproof and breathable ‘flytex’ fabrics are created. The same philosophy of quality, technical innovation, and simplicity extends to jackets, shirts, trousers, and accessories.

1983

I.W.S. Award. The International Wool Secretariat awards Fly3 as the best interpreter of superwash yarns: from this moment on, every Fly3 garment will be made to be machine‑washable.

1985

ARCHETIPI Line. Despite continuous product innovation, the company chooses to keep certain successful items unchanged, naming them 'Archetypes.' The same materials and the same hand‑crafted techniques have been preserved to this day

1989

FUSION. Through special techniques, wool on the outside of the sweater is harmonized with cotton on the inside. By blending other fibers as well (such as cashmere, cotton, bamboo, hemp) and dyeing the knit, a product with a unique character is created: 'Fusion'.

The consolidation and the 1990s

1993

Environmentally conscious, from its earliest years it rejected plastic, adopting natural materials for all packaging—from shopping bags to gummed paper, from cotton cords to laminated wooden hangers—communicating this with the slogan 'Let’s save the sea'.

1998

In collaboration with Zegna Baruffa, it combines cashmere with viscose to create practical, lightweight sweaters with functional cuts. Always machine‑washable.

Gli anni 2000 e l'evoluzione tecnologica

2007

WEATHERLY. After years of attempts, thanks to HI‑TEX technology Fly3 succeeds in making sweaters lighter without diminishing the distinctive charm of the Archetipi, and patents Weatherly: the lightweight, seamless, reversible sweater—wool on one side, cotton on the other. The following year it is produced in a limited edition also in cashmere and cotton.

2008

SOFTLY. With the concept of 'Seasonless,' today Fly3 also produces sweaters in SOFTLY—a blend of cashmere, cotton, and bamboo yarns with exceptional qualities: breathable, antibacterial, UV‑resistant, and incredibly soft, for a unique feeling of relaxation.

2012

Archetipi HI‑TEX. Fly3 continues to develop HI‑TEX technology and succeeds in redesigning all Archetipi garments to make them lighter, reversible, and seamless.

2016

2 SHADE.' In December 2016, FLY3 reached a new milestone: the '2shade' patent granted for the production of seamless, reversible, two‑tone sweaters. This patent reflects its passion for research and makes each sweater unique in the market.

Today

The desire for continuous experimentation and research still defines the FLY3 philosophy today. Alongside its iconic seamless, reversible, two‑tone sweaters, new projects are being developed to complete the knitwear offering: Le Naturali, Ghost Blazer, and Matéma.
